A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. for Mr. Honore Monroe “Red” Renfroe Sr. at David Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dr. Julius R. “Tip” Tipton will be the celebrant of the services. Entombment will follow at Beau Pre Mausoleum in Jeanerette.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m.
Red passed away on May 26, 2018, at the age of 92 years, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
He was born on March 7, 1926, to Lena Cox Renfroe and Robert Renfroe in Madison County, Mississippi, where he spent his childhood on his family’s farm. Red served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and then attended Mississippi State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum geology. He served again in the Air Force as a first lieutenant, during the Korean War.
Red married his beloved wife, Helen Joan Harte Renfroe, in 1950. They settled in New Iberia, where he worked for Houston Oil Materials Co.International as district manager.
For many years Red served as deacon and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of New Iberia.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Joan Harte Renfroe; his five children Deborah Renfroe Schick and husband Thomas of Kansas City, Missouri; Honore M. “Rennie” Renfroe Jr. and wife Cheryl of Kailua, HI; Randall W. Renfroe and wife Deborah of Lafayette; Pamela Renfroe Delaune and husband Martin of New Iberia; and Melanie Renfroe McLean and husband David of Fort Collins, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
Upholding the honor of pallbearers will be Benjamin Capps, Timothy Capps, Eric Delaune, Martin Delaune, David McLean, Honore Renfroe Jr. and Randall Renfroe.
The family wishes to express loving thanks to the staff at Bridgeway Hospice, Garden View Assisted Living Facility and all of the caregivers who tended to Red in his time of need.
