- A coroner's van is stationed near the scene of a Monday shooting that left one dead.
One man is dead after he was shot Monday night at a local McDonald’s restaurant on Center Street, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
One of two suspects was apprehended soon after the fatal shooting, according to Maj. Wendell Raborn, IPSO spokesman.

Raborn said at the scene that a 20-year-old black male was shot multiple times in the parking lot of the restaurant shortly after 7 p.m. Two men were seen fleeing the scene after the shooting, Raborn said, and deputies were able to catch one of the suspects on foot and recover a weapon. That suspect was described as a black male.
The victim was identified later Monday as Levonne Johnson of Jeanerette. Investigators are questioning the suspect and several other people who were at the scene. No motive has been determined.
Five IPSO units were stationed across the street at a nearby gas station when the shots were fired, he said. Those deputies were able to chase down and apprehend one of the two suspects.
“We had deputies right there at that store, five units when the shots went down,” Raborn said, pointing to the store. “We were right there and saw people running and caught one of them.”
The restaurant was closed for several hours after the shooting as the IPSO continued to investigate the homicide. Curious passersby and local residents who knew the victim were standing across the street from the parking lot.
Raborn said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have any information can call the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 369-3711 or Iberia Crime Stoppers at 364-TIPS.
