A Home-going Celebration will be held for Mr. Jackie Ray Gibson, at 3 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Home in New Iberia with Rev. John Gibson, officiating. Full military honors will be rendered.
Interment will be private.
Visitation will begin Saturday at noon until time of service at the funeral home.
He passed at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday June 3, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette following a brief illness.
Jackie Ray Gibson was born on July 30, 1954, in Olivier to the late Willie Gibson Sr. and Joyce Fontenette Gibson of Olivia. He was the youngest of six children. He attended and graduated from New Iberia Senior High Class of 1972. He also served his country in the U. S. Army receiving an honorable discharge and throughout his life, he worked as a Farmer Operator. One of Jackie’s many nicknames was “Polly”. He was also known to all for his many characters and personalities. In addition, he could imitate just about anyone and was known for bringing life to the room.
He leaves in God’s care, his wonderful wife whom he was married to for18 years but had a long life history for 40 beautiful years, Rebecca E. Antoine Gibson of Jeanerette, whom he loved and cherished; a step-daughter whom he reared as his own, Rebecca E. Antoine of Jeanerette; one daughter Trichia Lavern Gibson (Dwight Williams Sr.) of Baytown, Texas; one son Dedrick Minor (Toshika Wilson) of New Iberia; two sisters Patricia Daniels of New Iberia and Rosemary Anthony (Mike) of LaPlace; three brothers Glenn Gibson of New Iberia, Willie Gibson Jr. (Norma Jean) of St. Martinville and John Henry Gibson (Irene) of Orlando, Florida; his beloved aunt Ruth Daniels; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four godchildren and host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Gibson Sr. and Joyce Fontenette Gibson; his maternal grandparents, John Fontenette Sr. and Mary Johnson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Victoria Antoine and Albert Antoine Sr.; five uncles Walter Fontenette, Hayward Fontenette, Howard Fontenette, John Fontenette Jr. and Lloyd Fontenette Sr.; two aunts Rosemary Fontenette and Wilmar Fontenette; sister-in-law Linda Williams and brother-in-law Donald Williams Sr.
