FPD roadblock leads to arrests on Monday

FRANKLIN — Neighbors and passerbys on Main Street in Franklin paused to stare at a roadblock, police sirens and a crowd gathered Monday night as Franklin Police Officers searched a home that led to three arrests.
All three arrests stemmed from an investigation into complaints involving shots fired over the weekend.
Forty-nine-year-old Melvina Morris of Talbot street in Franklin was arrested with no bond set on the charge of accessory after the fact to attempted first degree murder.
Nineteen-year-old Michael Morris Jr of Talbot street in Franklin, had a long list of charges from previous warrants that included driver must be licensed, general speed law, resisting an officer, unattended motor vehicles, and reckless operation of a vehicle.
Morris was additionally arrested on a warrant dated May 17, 2018, for aggravated obstruction of a highway commerce, possession of schedule I narcotics, reckless operation of a vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, criminal damage to property, driver must be licensed, and stop signs and yield signs.
Officers had previous knowledge of an additional warrant for Lafayette Police Department for attempted first degree murder. Morris was additionally arrested on two warrants for 16th Judicial District court for failure to appear on the charges of resisting an officer and simple battery and a warrant for East Baton Rouge Parish for failure to appear on the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and illegal carrying of weapons in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
Morris was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center immediately following arrest.
Also arrested was 17-year-old Davian Burrell of Ninth Street in Franklin. Burrell was arrested and held with no bond at time of press release on the charges of obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact to attempted first degree murder.
The tip that led to the arrest was that one of the vehicles involved in a weekend shooting in Franklin was at the Main Street home.
When officer arrived at 300 Main St. Monday night with a search warrant Morris and Morris Jr tried to evade police by leaving the home by car. A traffic stop later caught them.
The Franklin Police Department was able to recover five weapons from the residence, which consisted of four rifles and one shotgun. The investigation continues as more arrests are pending.
