Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office deupities are searching for a suspect who killed another man Wednesday night in the 600 block of Corinne Street.
According to IPSO spokesman Maj. Wendell Raborn, deputies working the west side of New Iberia heard gunshots 9:02 p.m., and moments later found a black man with multiple gunshot wounds in the front yard of a home in the area.
Deputies began to administer first and CPR to the victim, but were unsuccessful and the man died at the scene, Raborn said. The victim’s name will be released pending notification of his family, according to the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office. Phone calls to the IPCC were unanswered Thursday.
The victim appeared to have been shot multiple times, according to Raborn.
Witnesses advised deputies that apparently the victim was being chased by another black man when he was shot. The suspect being sought was described as a slender black male wearing dark pants and a white muscle shirt.
The suspect was last seen running on Corrine Street toward Robertson Street. Raborn said the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Anyone with information on the case can call the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 369-3711 or Iberia Crime Stoppers at 364-TIPS.
