LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Reconsider opposition to same-sex relations

Your columnist, Michael McManus, is wrong about urging President Donald Trump to pick a Supreme Court Justice that would reverse the gay marriage ban.

Mr. McManus claims his authority to suggest this action is based on quotes from the Bible. He claims laws to disapprove of gay matrimony are found from several quotes in the Bible. Since it is logical to assume religious leaders, or royalty, or governmental leaders of a region were the ones that were entrusted by God to bring forth the laws of man. It is also logical to assume in at least some of the regions of the world lawmakers lived in parts of the world that at some time in history needed more community members. They understood the need for men and women to go forth and multiply. They logically called for a ban of gay marriages in order to build their region up with people.

But in other areas of the world the population was not critical to community survival. It was not necessary to grow the community, and since there was a significant portion of the population that wanted to live in committed gay lifestyles, lawmakers made quotes in the Bible affirming their gay lifestyles. And therefore same sex relationships should be acceptable to everyone.

If you want to cause grief and sorrow in this world, and be a divider of people, this would be one way of doing it. Dividing people because of your personal religious beliefs is just plain wrong.

Please reconsider your opposition to gay marriage based on the logic that God created these lifestyles since there are so many that find true fulfillment and happiness in their choices.
