All of the Teche Area open seats for the Nov. 6 election were filled by the end of qualifying Friday, but very few in the various school board races had more than two candidates.
In Iberia Parish, 12 of the 14 Iberia Parish School Board seats that area residents were only occupied by one person. The board members getting sworn in next year include Nursey McNeal, District 1; Elvin Dee Pradia, District 2; Jay McDonald, District 3; Debra Savoie, District 5; Dan LeBlanc, District 7; Brad Norris, District 8; Dana Dugas, District 9; Rachel Segura, District 10; Kathleen Rosamond, District 11; Arthur Alexander, District 12; Danny Segura, District 13 and Kernic “Mushy” Fremin, District 14.
In District 4, IPSB incumbent Thomas Jolivet will be facing off against former school board and New Iberia City Council member Raymond “Shoe-Do” Lewis.
District 6 incumbent Kim Lockett faces two contenders; Michael “Mike” Mayeux and Sanders Butler III.
The position of Constable Justice of the Peace for the Ward 3 Loreauville area was filled by Chad Hazelwood, with no contenders.
For the Third District Congressional race, incumbent Clay Higgins faces six contenders, including New Iberia Democrat Larry Rader, who ran against Higgins and then endorsed him in 2015.
Also running is Republican Joshua Guillory, who made headlines last month after getting the support of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Trump himself has supported Higgins in the race.
Other candidates include Democrat Mimi Methvin, Democrat Verone Thomas, Democrat Rob Anderson and Libertarian Aaron Andrus.
The Louisiana Secretary of State’s race faces has a full house of nine candidates for the position. That includes interim Secretary Kyle Ardoin and State Rep. Julie Stokes-R, Kenner.
Two candidates will be facing off in a race for St. Martin Parish President in November as well. Interim Parish President Chester Cedars will run against current Parish Councilman Albert “Da Da” Menard.
Five candidates are facing off to become St. Mary Parish Sheriff, including interim Sheriff Scott Anslum, Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi, Lonnie LaBouve, Blaise W. Smith and Carl J. Thornton.
Two candidates applied to become Baldwin mayor only hours before closing time Friday; incumbent Donna Lanceslin and Abel “Phil” Prejean, both Democrats. Baldwin Police Chief Harry Smith will be facing Albert “Al” Thibodeaux too.
Seven candidates applied for the five Baldwin Board of Aldermen positions. Those are Herbert “H.B.” Bell, Margaret C. Coleman, Tony Gibson, Donald Grimm, Neal J. Hebert, Marion J. Newton and Clarence A. Vappie.
