Drug charges following traffic stop

FOUR CORNERS — The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics Section arrested two men for drugs after a traffic stop. 

According to a prepared statement from Det. Whytley Jones, detectives patrolling Four Corners observed a vehicle traveling with an obstructed license plate and conducted a traffic stop.  Detectives said they approached Kelvin Johnson, 39, of Four Corners, and Jericho Charles, 29, of Four Corners. According to the statement, the detectives smelled a strong odor of marijuana inside the vehicle, and also observed Johnson attempting to conceal a small bag of marijuana in a small compartment.

Johnson was charged with possession of marijuana, obstruction of justice, a warrant for possession of schedule II (crack cocaine) with intent to distribute, possession of schedule I (marijuana) with intent to distribute and transactions involving drug proceeds.

Charles was charged with possession of marijuana. 

The warrant for Johnson’s arrest stemmed from an investigation that started Oct. 5, 2017. Detectives executed a search warrant at Johnson’s residence and located marijuana, crack cocaine and U.S. currency.

Charles was released on a summons to appear in court on October 5, 2018. Johnson was taken to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement for booking, and later released on a $15,500 bond.
