Man shot at St. Jude Street residence on Sunday

A man suffered non-life threatening wounds after he exchanged gunfire with a man who broke into his home, according to the New Iberia Police Department. 

Capt. John Babin with the NIPD said the shooting was at 6:20 p.m. Sunday, when a home on St. Jude Street was broken into by forced entry. 

The suspect and owner of the home exchanged gunfire and the victim suffered a bullet wound in the leg. He was taken to Lafayette General Medical Center for treatment. The man who broke into the home exited through the same door. The NIPD is searching for the suspect.
