Local Laotian residents have organized a series of fundraisers to send aid to residents in Laos.
An all-day event at Wat Thammarattanaram Buddhist Temple was held Saturday in Coteau.
Laos experienced a disastrous hydro-dam collapse in early August that wiped away the homes and communities of more than 6,000 Lao villagers in a southern part of the country called Attapeu. After hearing of the disaster, Laotians here have raised money to send aid in rebuilding homes, schools, temples and infrastructure.
So far, $5,000 has been raised and sent to the Jai Lo Foundation that is bringing direct relief.
On Saturday, members of Wat Thammatanneram Buddhist temple in Iberia Parish played host to a co-ed volleyball tournament, day activities with fun jumps, Lao concession stands and live music in a fundraising event at Wat Thammarattanaram.
Raffle tickets were sold for purchase of various prizes. Live bands, presentations and concessions.
More fundraising events are being planned to help with the ongoing relief efforts in Laos.
