JEANERETTE — A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Ms. Shabata Lachae “Sha Bay-Bay” Matthews, 42, at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church with Fr. Francis Domoah, SVD, as celebrant.
She will await the resurrection at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the church until time of service with a Rosary to be recited at 9 a.m. and tributes to begin at 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
A native and resident of Jeanerette, she passed at 8:01 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was a 1993 graduate of Franklin Senior High School. In addition, she served as a member of the United States Navy. She later received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston after which she was employed as a Senior Clinical Research Associate with PRA Health Sciences of Utah.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her parents, Wilmer Castle Jr. (Mary) of Baton Rouge and Cynthia August Matthews (Wilfred) of Jeanerette; one son Duanyell Williams Jr. of Franklin; seven brothers Wilfred Matthews Jr. of Jeanerette, Terrell Castle (Julia) of Lafayette, Wayne Castle (Brenda) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Quientin Matthews of Jeanerette, Quincy Matthews of Jeanerette, Triston Jacobs of Saint Martinville and Quientrell Matthews; seven sisters Shalayna Levy (Conrad) of Humble, Texas, Yvette Matthews of Jeanerette, Lynette Lewis (Quincey) of New Iberia, Keisa Gray of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Brittany Matthews of Abbeville, Keisa Matthews of Abbeville and Shantell August of Port Arthur, Texas; a special friend Dion Cage of Patterson; her godfathers Bernard Eugene and Theopolis Baldwin Sr.; her godchildren Damyah August, Jarnesha Derousell and Javonte August; and a loving niece Ke’Irah Matthews. She also held a special bond with her cousins Nawiskie Green and Tyra Loston; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Samuel and Hazel August; paternal grandparents, Rev. Wilmer Castle Sr. and Lucille Castle; one brother Keith August; and her godmothers Brenda Lee and Debbie Sabine.
Active pallbearers are Kenyon Green, Damarcus White, Dexter Antoine, Joseph Hoskins, Stanley Haggray, Kenneth Jones, Herman Lockett and Kerwin Johnson.
