HOUSTON — Ruby Lee Pecot, who lived in Jeanerette most of her life before moving to Houston, recently celebrated her 105th birthday.

The Rev. Louie Alexander, her son, said she has been blessed to celebrate another year with her family, community and friends.

He said throughout the years, Pecot has been a historian of her times, an invaluable source of wisdom and a faithful soul to her church and community.

“We are grateful that God has seen fit to have her yet remaining with us,” Alexander said, “and it is our hope that this announcement might encourage those that she has touched.”

For health and welfare concerns, Pecot relocated to Houston to be with her son and daughter-in-law, Louie and Mary Alexander. However, her son said with emphasis, “Be it known that she has never regarded any other place as home but Jeanerette, Louisiana.”

She has six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and 10-great-great-grandchildren.
