CHS falls in five

Catholic High’s two-match win streak came to an end Thursday as the Lady Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead but couldn’t put Lafayette High away in a five-set non-district volleyball loss, 25-20, 25-19, 17-25, 18-25, 8-15.

CHS fell to 9-8 overall. The Lady Panthers are off this weekend before returning to action Tuesday at Lafayette Christian, the first of three straight road contests that ends with Thursday’s Division IV, District 2 opener at Franklin.

Madison Bienvenu led CHS with 20 kills, 15 digs, a block and three aces. Abigail Richthofen added 14 kills and10 digs, Anna Gonsoulin had 20 assists, Anna Angelle had 19 assists, Oakley Guillot had six kills and four aces, Hana Maturin finished with five kills and two blocks and Sydnee Raheem had two blocks.

ESA 3, ASH 1

GRAND COTEAU — Hailie and Kailie Williams each had 15 kills as ESA beat Academy of the Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau 25-16, 25-19, 28-30, 25-19 Wednesday in a non-district contest.

Hailie Williams added an ace and three blocks and Kailie Williams had two aces and one block as ESA improved to 9-2 overall headed into this weekend’s tournament at Natchitoches Central.

Also for the Lady Falcons, Taylore Louviere finished with 12 assists, 10 kills, two aces and four blocks; Peyton Stokley had 14 assists, four kills, an ace and a block; Maggie Shuffler and Maudry Nichols each had a kill; Ellie Broussard had two aces and Graycee Cline finished with 19 digs.

In other matches involving Teche Area teams Thursday, Delcambre beat Carencro 25-6, 25-6, 25-8. No information was provided to The Daily Iberian on that match. New Iberia Senior High played David Thibodaux but no score was reported by press time.
