Falcons in top four in boys’, girls’ varsity races

CADE — ESA finished third in the boys’ race and fourth in the girls’ event at the school’s Ain’t No Shade in Cade cross country meet held Saturday.

Westgate, Catholic High and Highland Baptist also were among the teams competing in either varsity or middle school races.

Several Teche Area athletes were named to the All Acadiana Cross Country Team, selected from Acadiana-area athletes based on their finish at the meet, including Alike Malek of ESA, Caitlin Booker of Westgate, Samantha Withers of ESA and Layne Boudreaux of Catholic High in the varsity girls’ competition and Oliver Nickel, Jackson Spoon and Christian Herpin of ESA in the boys’ varsity competition.

Varsity Girls

Vandebilt Catholic won the girls’ varsity title with 33 points. St. Thomas More was second with 89, followed by Lafayette (92), ESA (94), Teurlings Catholic (141), Westminster Christian (173), Catholic High (188), Beau Chene (193), Highland Baptist (215) and Academy of the Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau (299).

Rosalie Michot of Lafayette was first in the girls’ varsity race in 19:09.9 with Brynn Kelso of Vandebilt second in 19:46.7, Lexi Guidry of Teurlings third in 19:49.9, Katherine Kazayoux of Vandy fourth in 20:15.4 and Aline Malek of ESA fifth in 20:41.0.

Other area runners in the top 15 included Caitlin Booker of Westgate, 10th in 21:04.7, and Samantha Withers of ESA, 14th in 21:41.7.

Other ESA girls in the varsity race included Taylor Guillotte (20th, 22:38.50), Ava Grace Hebert (23:45.70), Madeline Breaux (23:55.00), Piper Leger (24:03.70), Arden Frantzen (26:25.40) and Kathryn Dressel (28:29.00).

Also competing in the girls’ varsity for CHS were Hannah Trappey (24:09.20), Caroline Broussard (24:29.20), Blythe Boudreaux (25:53.90), Cameron Hebert (26:59.50), Alyssa Bertrand (30:12.40) and Angelina Scott (30:52.50).

Also running for Westgate in the girls’ varsity competition were Jamya Verdun (19th, 22:25.90) and Haliegh Broussard (32:59.40).

Dusti Abshire was the top finisher for Highland Baptist in 29th place, running the course in 23:33.30. Also running for HBCS were Hilary Hebert (23:55.00), Madison Champagne (26:0.90), Emma Blissett (27:27.70) and Payton Clark (29:26.50).

All-Acadiana girls were Rosalie Michot of Lafayette, Lexi Guidry of Teurlings, Aline Malek of ESA, Mia Parker of STM, Caitlin Booker of Westgate, Samantha Withers of ESA, Lindon Munsell of Lafayette, Mackenzie Olinger of Notre Dame and Layne Boudreaux of Catholic High.

Middle School Girls

ESA was first in the girls’ middle school race with 47 points and Highland Baptist was second with 57 points.

Fatima’s Angelle Dupuis was first overall in 14:10.5 and teammate Jordyn Guidry was second in 14:29. Maegan Champagne of HBCS was third in 14:56.8, followed by Elliana Desormeaux of ESA (15r:12.3), Samantha Taylor of HBCS (15:14.2), Catherine Coreil of St. Pius (15:16.3) and Briley Herpin of ESA (15:17.3). Also in the top 15 were Elena Alvarado of ESA (11th, 16:19.5), Evie Miller of HBCS (13th, 16:25.8) and Maryn Roberts of ESA (14th, 16:31.4).

Varsity Boys

Teurlings Catholic won the boys’ varsity title with 59 points and St. Thomas More was second with 74, with ESA third at 93, Lafayette fourth (94) and Beau Chene fifth (170). Rounding out the team scores were Lafayette Christian (197), Westgate (202), Vandebilt (202), Catholic High (229), David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy (235), Westminster Christian (279), Kaplan (307), Opelousas Catholic (346) and Notre Dame (347).

Cameron Angelle of Carencro won the individual title in 16:22 with teammate Campbell Bryce second in 17:00.8. Oliver Nickel of ESA was third in 17:15.5 with teammates Jackson Spoon seventh (17:42.0) and Christian Herpin 11th (18:06.8).

Also competing for ESA were William Lemoine (20:00.30), Sloane Brasseaux (20:20.80), Tate Broussard (20:31.00), Charles Blanchard (21:52.50), Ian Waskom (22:09.80), Keegan Riley (22:31.80), Matthew Gary (22:46.30) and Matthew Bush (23:24.90).

Jonah Helms was Catholic High’s top finisher in 19:02.20 for 23rd place. Also running for CHS were Jacob Kibbie (19:37.70), Samual Trotter (20:54.40), Eli Berard (21:36.80), Craig “CJ” Gonsoulin (21:43.00), Addison Fields (23:11.30), Jacob Comeaux (24:20.70) and Beau Beaullieu (26:39.60).

Tray’quan Francis was Westgate’s top finisher in 29th place in 19:23.50. Also running for WHS were Isaiah Pickney (19:37.70), Bradley Pellerin (19:55.40), Benjamin Babineaux (21:14.60), Matthew Trahan (21:15.20), Davian Hill (21:40.50), Chad Simon (21:41.00) and Joncale Pellerin (21:49.70).

Colby Abshire of Highland Baptist finished in 21:56.50 and Johnny Clark finished in 23:56.90.

Boys’ All-Acadiana picks based on results were Cameron Angelle of Carencro, Campbell Bryce of Carencro, Oliver Nickel of ESA, Riley Plunkett of Lafayette, Christian LeBlanc of Lafayette, Jackson Spoon of ESA, Devin Davis of Westminster, Carlos Femmer of Teurlings, Jaden Lebean of Lafayette and Christian Herpin of ESA.

Middle School Boys

ESA won the middle school boys’ team title with 26 points and Highland was second with 54.

Top finishers in the middle school event were Greer Hernandez of ESA in first place (13:08.0), followed by Will Brown of ESA (13:23.4), Charles Blem of ESA (13:28.6), Tyler Romero of Highland (13:37.9) and Carter Schwarz of St. Pius (13:43.3).

Tyler Blissett of HBCS was sixth in 13:454.5) and Luke Crochet of ESA was seventh in 13:45.6. Also in the top 15 were Evan Romero of HBCS, 10th in 14:10.9, and Cameron Burke of ESA, 14th in 14:19.0.
