Memorial services for Leonard P. Leon Jr., 45, will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 414 S. Weeks Street, New Iberia. Pastor Mark Lewis will officiate services. Interment will be private.

A native of St. Martinville and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Leon passed away at 4:21 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at his residence in New Iberia, following a brief illness.

Mr. Leon was a graduate of Gary Job Corps Center in San Marcos, Texas, and a former employee of Raising Canes in New Iberia. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered most for his caring ways and being kind-hearted.

He leaves in God’s care his wife, Shalander Ford Leon of New Iberia; his mother, Gussie Leon; five brothers, Bryant Leon (Brandy), Dwayne Leon (Kewanna), Martin Leon, Isaac Leon and Michael Leon all of New Iberia; three sisters, Mary Leon (Daniel), Edna Leon and Amanda Leon, all of New Iberia; one stepson, Dwayne D. Alfred, and one stepdaughter, Tyrionna A. Davis, both of New Iberia; seven aunts, Rebecca Jones, Kathleen Sanders, Brenda Jenkins, Sandra Taylor, Carolyn Charles, Shirley Jones and Beatrice Leon, all of New Iberia; two uncles, Ester Leon and Troy George, both of New Iberia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Paul Leon Sr., paternal grandparents, Gabriel and Annie Leon; maternal grandparents, Murphy and Gussie George; one sister, Paula Leon; four uncles, Alfred Jones, Ronnie Sam, Gabriel Leon Jr. and Sylvester Leon; three aunts, Edna Sam, Mary Leon and Shirley Leon; one niece, Sharmaine Provost; and two nephews, Amarion Leon and Ma’Kyrion Leon.

The active pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be family and friends.
