- West St. Mary's Jac-kyric Roberson was voted the Haik, Minvielle & Grubbs Defensive Player of the Week by Teche Area football fans.
The West St. Mary Wolfpack couldn’t find a way to beat Catholic High School in the teams’ District 7-2A game this past week, but two players for WSM caught the attention of voters in an online poll this week.
WSM receiver Daylon Richard, who had 14 catches for 262 yards and three touchdowns in a 62-26 loss to the Panthers, topped voting for Offensive Player of the Week among Teche Area high school football players on The Daily Iberian’s website.
Teammate Jac-kyric Roberson finished with 14 tackles and earned the most votes on the defensive side of the ball in the poll sponsored by the law firm of Haik, Minvielle & Grubbs.
Richard finished with 49.9 percent of the fan vote to beat out Catholic High School’s Peter LeBlanc, who finished with 29.4 percent of the vote.
LeBlanc, who is committed to sign with UL-Lafayette, had eight carries for 152 yards and two touchdowns in the CHS win.
Franklin quarterback Zariq Perry finished with 19.5 percent of the fan vote. Perry completed nine of 12 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown and carried seven times for 38 yards and two touchdowns in the Hornets’ 40-16 win over Delcambre. FSH is 3-0 in district and holds a half-game lead over Catholic High and Ascension Episcopal, each at 2-0. Franklin plays host to AES tonight.
Erath quarterback Luke LeBlanc finished with 1.2 percent of the fan vote after helping the Bobcats earn their first win of the season, 36-14 over Berwick in the teams’ District 8-3A opener. LeBlanc completed 17 of 29 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns.
Roberson netted 60.2 percent of the fan vote in a two-way race with Garin Stansbury of Franklin.
Stansbury, who netted 39.8 percent of the vote, had 10 tackles in the Hornets’ district win.
Just under 2,400 votes were cast for the week, bringing the season total to nearly 12,000 votes cast through six weeks.
