Delcambre, Erath players garner weekly prep honors

- Erath High's Lane Toups was voted the Haik, Minvielle & Grubbs Defensive Player of the Week after making 10 tackles, including two tackles for loss, in a win over North Vermilion.
A pair of football players from neighboring towns nabbed offensive and defensive Player of the Week honors following the seventh week of the local high school football season.
Noah Broussard of Delcambre High School and Lane Toups of Erath High School earned offensive and defensive honors, respectively, after their teams picked up big wins.
Broussard, who rushed for 293 yards and three touchdowns on an incredible 36 carries, earned 53.3 percent of the fan vote in an online poll conducted at www.iberianet.com/sports. The Player of the Week program is sponsored by the law firm of Haik, Minvielle & Grubbs and The Daily Iberian.
Broussard, who also had a pair of 2-point conversions, helped the Panthers beat Ascension Christian 53-16 in a non-district road game.
He outpolled three other strong candidates, including Catholic High quarterback Trey Amos, Hanson quarterback Stephen Rosamond and Erath quarterback Luke LeBlanc.
Amos rushed for 124 yards and four touchdowns on 10 carries and completed four of five passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns in a 68-8 win over Loreauville. Amos, who did not play in the second half, had 23.9 percent of the fan vote.
LeBlanc rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown on six carries and completed 10 of 20 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns in a 39-17 District 8-3A win over parish rival North Vermilion. LeBlanc, who set a school single-season passing yardage mark in the game, had 19.1 percent of the fan vote.
Rosamond, who rushed for 78 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries and went 8-for-12 for 70 yards passing in a 48-0 win over District 7-A rival Highland Baptist, finished with 3.7 percent of the fan vote.
Toups finished with 10 tackles and one assist with two tackles for loss in the Bobcats’ district win. He had a whopping 85.9 percent of the fan vote.
Lawson St. Blanc of Hanson had three tackles with two assists, one sack and two tackles for loss against Highland. He netted 14.1 percent of the fan vote.
Around, 1,500 votes were cast for the week, bringing the season total to more than 13,000 votes through seven weeks.
Fans nominate players for the weekly honor by posting a comment to the story seeking nominations. Nominations are taken from Friday nights following the weekly prep games through midday Monday with the top nominees selected for the poll, which begins mid-afternoon each Monday and continues through early Thursday afternoon. The top vote getters each week are the Players of the Week and receive a certificate and T-shirt.
In order to nominate, one must sign in with their Facebook page. Only players for the 14 teams in The Daily Iberian’s coverage area are eligible.
