Shadows-on-the-Teche got a spooky twist Saturday evening with the property decked out in Halloween decorations for the Iberia Parish Library’s annual “Terror on the Teche” event.

More than 200 children and parents walked onto the Shadows’ grounds, many of the youngsters dressed in a variety of costumes and ready for a fun night of gasps and good times. Stephanie Lee, public relations director for the Iberia Parish Library, said it was a great event that met a big reception Saturday.

This year, organizers were able to bring in the Nutty Scientists of Acadiana for the show. The Lafayette-based group normally teaches science-related topics in the form of workshops and shows, but added a Halloween twist to the event for Terror on the Teche.

“This is going great,” Lee said as the event unfolded. “The 4-H were a big help and I was really glad to find the Nutty Scientists of Acadiana. They’re doing a great job.”

Lee said this year’s Terror on the Teche was one of the most well-attended in recent history. Children attending were treated to a fog machine before the show and during the event the Nutty Scientists of Acadiana took the children on a Halloween-themed journey that incorporated elements of science and fun.

“This is one of the biggest attendances we’ve had in quite a while, in at least a couple of years,” Lee said. “We’ve had at least 250 people come in so far.”

The theme of the show involved the ghost of Albert Einstein, who took participants on an adventure of spectral spells, ghost hunters, coded messages and hilarious inventions for those attending.

The event also went to a good cause. Lee said the proceeds derived from ticket sales go to the Friends of the Library, a local group that strives to support the Iberia Parish Library and all of the services it provides for Iberia Parish residents.
