- The Catholic High Panthers are ranked sixth in the Class 2A statewide high school football polls released Monday by the LSWA.
Catholic High School and St. Martinville Senior High continued rolling through their competition this week and remain entrenched in their respective spots in the latest statewide football polls conducted by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Neither the Class 2A nor the Class 4A polls saw much change after a week of district action for most teams.
The Top 10 in Class 4A remained unchanged with St. Martinville (8-0) staying at No. 7 as all 1- teams in the poll won. St. Martinville beat previously undefeated Livonia 40-7 in a District 5-4A game.
In Class 2A, only one spot changed as Calvary Baptist (5-3) moved into the No. 10 spot. Catholic High (6-1) stayed at No. 6 after a 63-0, District 7-2A win over Delcambre.
Several district opponents of Teche Area teams are ranked again after eight weeks of the season.
Acadiana (7-1) moved up a spot from seventh to sixth in the Class 5A poll after its 29-19 win over Sulphur. The Wreckin’ Rams play in District 3-5A along with New Iberia Senior High.
St. Thomas More (7-1), a District 4-4A rival of Westgate, is fifth in Class 4A. Breaux Bridge (6-2), a District 5-4A rival of St. Martinville, has 4 points in the 4A poll.
Erath’s District 8-3A rival Kaplan (5-3), which beat the Bobcats 28-14 on Friday, remains No. 5 in the Class 3A poll.
In Class 2A, Ascension Episcopal (7-1), which shares the District 7-2A lead with Catholic High, is receiving votes with 19, the 11th best total in the class.
Lafayette Christian (8-0) is second in the Class A polls with one of 10 first-place votes. The Knights compete in District 7-A with Teche Area teams Highland Baptist, Hanson and Centerville. LCA beat previous-No. 9 Vermilion Catholic 54-21 in a district game on Friday. VC (7-1) fell out of the Top 10 and has 23 votes, two shy of No. 10 St. Edmund.
John Curtis (8-0) remains the No. 1 team in Class 5A with nine of 10 first-place votes. No. 2 West Monroe (8-0) has the other first-place vote. Catholic High of Baton Rouge (7-1), Destrehan (7-1), Zachary (6-2), Acadiana, East Ascension (7-1), John Ehret (7-1), Terrebonne (8-0) and Evangel Christian (5-3) round out the Top 10.
Karr (8-0) is the No. 1 team in 4A with nine first-place votes. Lakeshore (8-0) and Northwood (8-0, 1 first-place vote) are second and third, followed by Warren Easton (6-1), STM, Leesville (8-0), St. Martinville, Bastrop (6-1), Neville (5-2) and Plaquemine (6-2).
University Lab (8-0) is the unanimous No. 1 in Class 3A, followed by Iota (8-0), Union Parish (7-1), Sterlington (6-2), Kaplan, Archbishop Hannan (8-0), Jena (7-1), Northwest (6-2), De La Salle (5-2) and Eunice (7-1),
Notre Dame (8-0) is No. 1 in Class 2A with nine first-place votes, followed by Amite (7-1), Dunham (8-0), Many (7-1, 1 first-place vote), Country Day (8-0), Catholic High, Newman (7-1), Rosepine (8-0), Welsh (6-2) and Calvary Baptist (5-3).
Kentwood (8-0) is No. 1 in Class A with eight first-place votes. No. 2 LCA is followed by Southern Lab (7-1), Haynesville (8-0), Oak Grove (8-0), Logansport (7-0, 1 first-place vote), West St. John (6-2), Ascension Catholic (7-1), Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (7-1) and St. Edmund (7-1).
