CHS sweeps Westgate

The Catholic High volleyball team, winners of seven of the last eight matches, head into its final tournament of the season starting today with a 25-9. 25-8, 25-23 sweep of Westgate High Wednesday in a non-district volleyball .

With playoff pairings announced Monday, CHS will participate in ESA’s annual Spooktacular Tournament this weekend with a trio of games in pool play today, followed by the championship round Saturday.

Abigail Richthofen led CHS against Westgate with five kills, nine aces and a block. Christina Viator added four kills and a block, Oakley Guillotte had four kills and three digs and Hana Maturin also finished with four kills. Anna Gonsoulin had 13 assists and eight aces and Grace Broussard had three aces and five digs.

Individual statistics for Westgate (8-25) were not available. WHS closes out the regulars season with a pair of games against Sam Houston today.

CHS will play Lafayette Christian Academy at 5 p.m. today and Rayne at 6 p.m. today in pool play at the Spooktacular..

Catholic High 3, Patterson 1

PATTERSON — Madison Bienvenu had 12 kills and three aces as Catholic High closed out its Division IV, District 2 schedule with a 25-18, 31-29, 25-23 sweep of Patterson Tuesday.

Abigail Richthofen and Christina Viator each had seven kills and Hana Maturin added for the Lady Panthers, who finished district play with a 4-1 record.

Anna Angelle had 17 assists and Anna Gonsoulin added 12 assists for CHS. Viator had eight blocks, Maturin had five blocks and Gonsoulin had three aces.

Individual statistics for Patterson (12-8, 3-2) were not available

ESA 3, Highland Baptist 0

CADE — Taylore Louviere had six kills, three aces and two blocks as ESA improved to 21-9 on the season with a 25-20, 25-5, 25-9 sweep of Highland Baptist in Division V, District 2 Tuesday.

Hailie Williams had five kills and three aces and Kailie Williams finisehd with 10 kills and an ace as ESA closed out the district poprtion of its schedule with a 2-4 mark. 

Peyton Stokley had 12 assists and two kills; Maggie Shuffler added three kills and Ellie Broussard had 14 digs and an ace for the Lady Falcons, who play host to its annual Spooktacular Tournament starting today.

Individual statistics for Highland Baptist (10-21, 0-6) were not available. Highland also plays in the Spooktacular this weekend with games against Assumption at 5 p.m. Thursday and St. Thomas More at 6 p.m. Thursday.

ESA plays Iota at 6 p.m. Thursday and Teurlings at 7 p.m. Thursday.

St. Martinville 3, North Vermilion 0

LEROY — Jordan Landry had eight kills and two blocks as St. Martinville Senior High put the bow on an undefeated district campaign with a 25-11, 25-18, 25-17 sweep of North Vermilion Tuesday.

Tori Louis finished with seven kills while Markell Potier and Ebony Sylvester each added four kills for the Lady Tigers, who won the District III-4 title with a perfect 6-0 record. SMSH improved to 14-15 on the season headed into the final regular season game today at NISH and this weekend at the Spooktacular Tournament.

Individual statistics for NVHS (10-22, 4-2) were not available.

SMSH plays St. Joseph’s Academy at 5 p.m. Friday and Sam Houston at 6 p.m. Friday in the Spooktacular.

In other games involving Teche Area teams Tuesday, Delcambre swept Franklin  25-4, 25-9, 25-8 while West St. Mary lost to Notre Dame 25-12, 25-14, 25-7 and Westgate lost to St. Thomas More 25-4, 25-0, 25-7.

Information on those games was not provided to The Daily Iberian.

The volleyball regular season comes to an end Saturday. Delcambre will participate in the Episcopal High of Baton Rouge Tournament over the weekend while Franklin wraps up its season today on the road at Covenanet Christian and WSM finished its season with Tuesday’s contest.

ESA Spooktacular

ESA will play host to its annual Spooktacular Tournament starting today and going through Saturday.

It is the final tournament of the regular season as all records must be turned into the LHSAA Sunday and the volleyball playoff brackets are announced Monday.

In addition to host ESA, Catholic High, Highland Baptist, St. Martinville and New Iberia Senior High also will participate in the tournament.

The tournament starts at 5 p.m. today with four games on tap. Games continue at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. today and Friday while Saturday’s games start at 10:30 p.m. with the championship game set for 5:30 p.m.

Catholic High, Highland, St. Martinville and ESA’s games in the tournament were all listed above. 

NISH will play Ursuline Academy Friday at 6 p.m. and Archbishop Hannan at 7 p.m. Friday in the tournament.
