Natalie Bolton Chapman

Natalie Bolton Chapman, 88, died October 23, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Home in Monroe due to complications related to a fall.

Mrs. Chapman was born July 27, 1930, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Nathan and Mary Lardner Bolton. For 75 years she lived in Bastrop before moving to St. Joseph’s Assisted Living Center in Monroe in 2012.

In 1951, she married William S. “Bill” Chapman and they resided in Crossett, Arkansas, for two years, where the couple owned and operated the Crossett News-Observer, a weekly newspaper. In 1953, they moved to Bastrop where they were associated with the Bastrop Daily Enterprise for 37 years.

She and her husband, Bill, spent much of their retirement years traveling. They visited all 50 states as well as 98 foreign countries on six of the seven continents.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her oldest daughter, Katie Chapman.

She is survived by her sister Carolyn Bolton Johnston and brother in-law Ben of Beaumont, Texas; son Will Chapman and wife, Gladys, of New Iberia; son Nathan Chapman of New Orleans; and daughter Mary Chapman Bowler and husband, Bryan, of West Monroe. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Adam Chapman of Baton Rouge, Daniel Chapman and wife, Katie, of Pollock, Catherine Bowler Neustrom and husband, Isaiah, of Kansas City, Missouri, Ann Marie Bowler of Baton Rouge and Victor Bowler of West Monroe.

A visitation will be held at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018, at Cox Funeral Home in Bastrop and 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church of Bastrop, with a service at 3 p.m., followed by internment in Christ Church Cemetery. 

Any memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or the Louisiana Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in Metairie.
