SMSH finishes unbeaten regular season; CHS, Westgate win big; Loreauville gets first win

St. Martinville held off Breaux Bridge 30-28 Friday night to finish its first unbeaten regular season in more than 20 years.
Also Friday in the Teche Area, Catholic High finished 9-1 after beating Catholic High 52-6 for the outright District 7-2A championship, Westgate improved its playoff position with a 47-0 win over Northside and Loreauville outscored Delcambre 46-38 to earn its first win of the season.

In other games involving Teche Area teams, New Iberia was edged by Sam Houston 28-21, Highland Baptist fell to Gueydan 56-0, Jeanerette fell to Lafayette Christian 56-0, West St. Mary fell to Ascension Episcopal 40-8, Erath beat Abbeville 41-21 and Hanson beat Centerville 27-20.
St. Martinville 30, Breaux Bridge 28
BREAUX BRIDGE — St. Martinville rallied from a 28-12 deficit to beat St. Martin Parish rival Breaux Bridge, sewing up the District 5-4A title and a top five spot in the Class 4A power rankings along with the all-important parish championship.
Breaux Bridge missed a 28-yard field goal with seconds remaining, allowing SMSH to finish the season 10-0, the fourth perfect season in school history and first since 1996.
The Tigers (10-0, 6-0) were fourth in the most recent power rankings.
Westgate 47, Northside 0
Mar’keyvrick Eddie completed 14 of 18 passes for 223 yards and four touchdowns as Westgate blanked Northside Friday night for homecoming.
Junior wide receiver Kayshon Boutte scored the first two touchdowns of the game for the Tigers, who led 26-0 at the half.
After Northside (1-9, 0-5) had a punt blocked on its first possession, Boutte carried for a six-yard score on the next play.
Boutte, who had two more touchdowns nullified by penalties, also caught a 17-yard scoring strike from Eddie, who threw touchdowns to four different Tigers.
Javon Marks led all receivers with six catches for 96 yards and an 18-yard touchdown.
Freshman Jordan Doucet hauled in a 17-yard reception for a TD and senior running back Tyreese Jackson, who gained 76 yards on six carries, grabbed a 29-yard touchdown pass.
Freshmen running backs Tahj Boyance and Steven Antoine each added touchdown runs in the fourth quarter.
WHS (6-4, 3-2) will enter the playoffs next week on a three-game winning streak.
Catholic High 52, Franklin 6
Trey Henry rushed for 143 yards and four touchdowns and the Catholic High defense pitched a shutout in the second half and the Panthers clinched the outright District 7-2A championship.
CHS ends the season with a 9-1 overall record and a 6-0 district mark while Franklin fell to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in district.
Henry scored on runs of one, three, two and five yards and just missed out on a fifth touchdown as he was pushed out of bounds at the 5-yard line after a 61-yard run.
William Regard added a touchdown and Peter LeBlanc caught a 69-yard touchdown pass from Trey Amos.
Franklin, which entered the game off of a bye week and a loss to Ascension Episcopal, stayed with Catholic High through the first quarter and trailed 10-6 after the opening period compliments of a 66 yard touchdown run from Jairus Boyd but the Panthers pulled away in the second half for the win.
Boyd finished 71 yards rushing while quarterback Zariq Perry rushed for 24 yards and threw for 61 yards for the Hornets
Both teams are headed to the playoffs next week as Catholic High entered the week as the No. 6 seed in Division III and the Hornets were the 22nd seed in Class 2A.
Playoff pairing will be announced Sunday by the LHSAA.
Loreauville 46, Delcambre 38
LOREAUVILLE — The Loreauville Tigers celebrated homecoming with their biggest offensive output of the season, scoring on their first six possessions and using a big turnover to turn the game in their favor.
With both teams scoring at will and trading leads through the early third quarter, Loreauville got a strip and recovery of a fumble by Jaylyn James as Delcambre marched inside the LHS 10-yard line. The Tigers (1-9, 1-5) drove for another touchdown and a 38-24 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter, and that two-score lead proved too much for Delcambre to overcome.
The loss dealt a blow to Delcambre’s playoff hopes. The Panthers (3-7, 1-5) were at No. 33 in the Class 2A power rankings heading into Friday’s game with the top 32 teams earning a playoff bid.
Loreauville rushed for 280 yards with James gaining 95 with a touchdown and Ethan Simon netting 92 yards and a TD. The Tigers also got a 36-yard scoring pass on a reverse with Simon throwing to Grant Norris, and a fumble recovery in the end zone for a touchdown from lineman Austin Belaire. LHS had 75 yards passing, completing seven of 10 attempts.
Delcambre ran for 240 yards, led by Parker Nunez’s 123 yards and two touchdowns. Colt Dooley ran for 57 yards and a touchdown and Noah Broussard added 52 yards on the ground. Dooley also had a 41-yard pass to Hayden Frederick and finished with 50 total passing yards.
Sam Houston 28, New Iberia 21
MOSS BLUFF — New Iberia went toe-to-toe with Sam Houston before the Broncos scored a late touchdown to escape with a win in a District 3-5A game Friday.
The teams traded touchdowns throughout the first half with NISH leading 7-0, Sam Houston coming back to lead 14-7, NISH tying it up by the end of the first quarter, Sam Houston taking a 21-14 lead and then New Iberia again tying it up by halftime.
A touchdown run by Marcus Mott with two minutes remaining proved to be the difference. The Yellow Jackets outrushed Sam Houston 135-87 and were within six total yards of the Broncos for the game.
Tyce Fusilier rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown to lead the Jackets and Brandon Latigue also had a rushing touchdown. Taegan Bourque completed 10 of 17 passes for 108 yards including a 38-yard TD toss to Markell Linzer.
