The city of New Iberia and its contractor, Gulf Coast Underground LLC, will conduct a Sewer System Evaluation Survey in the Hopkins Street area from Nov. 12 through Dec. 7. 

The survey will involve opening and entering manholes in the streets and easements. An important task of the survey will be smoke testing the sewer lines to locate breaks and defects in the sewer system. 

The smoke that might be seen coming from the vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground is non-toxic, harmless, has no odor and creates no fire hazard.

The smoke should not enter a residence unless there is  defective plumbing or dried drain traps.
