Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for James “Six” McDaniel Jr., 93, who passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018, in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rev. Matt Woollett, Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
A longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. McDaniel was born on July 22, 1925, in Leonville, to the late James and Stella Hebert McDaniel. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Marines, during World War II, going into battle at the Marshall Islands and Guam. On his 19th birthday, he was wounded during the battle for Guam and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
Mr. McDaniel retired from Shell Oil after 25 years of service and was an avid swimmer. He also loved diving, going to the beach and taught many people how to swim and dive. Mr. McDaniel enjoyed making frames for his wife’s artwork, along with building and repairing things. He always had a positive attitude.
Survivors include his daughters Joycelyn McDaniel Peer and husband, Michael, of New Iberia, Jayne McDaniel Stokes and husband, Leif, of New Iberia; son James C. McDaniel III and wife, Jocelyn, of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren Lee Lancon and wife, Mari, Joel Burt and wife, Cameron, Joshua Pellerin and wife, Tiffani, Caleb Pellerin, Sammy Stokes, Aubrie McDaniel and Alec McDaniel; great-grandchildren Paige, Holden, Dax, Rilyn and Bret.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Touchet McDaniel; brother Harold McDaniel; twin sisters Mary Getty and Myrtle McManus; and a great-grandchild Britton.
Pallbearers will be James McDaniel III, Michael Peer, Leif Stokes, Joshua Pellerin, Caleb Pellerin and Sammy Stokes.
