Worker at sugar mill dies at facility

ST. MARTINVILLE — A worker at the Louisiana Sugar Cane Co-op mill near St. Martinville died at the facility Sunday, according to a company spokesman.
John Hebert, who handles grower relations for the cooperative, said Sunday evening there were no determination on the details of the occurrence. According to Hebert, an internal investigation is underway in the incident.
The facility, located three miles north of St. Martinville on the Bayou Teche, produces raw sugar and blackstrap molasses.
The cooperative was formed in 1993 when the Breaux Bridge Sugar Co-op and the St. Martinville Sugar Co-op merged.
