Graveside services for Helen Kilchrist, 86, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at St. Nicholas Mausoleum, Lydia with Father Gregory Chauvin as celebrant.
Helen went home to be with the Lord at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2018, at her residence with family members at her side. She was a native of Lake Charles and a resident of New Iberia. A member of the Art Guild for many years, commissioned as an artist with full credentials through the United States and a recipient of an award in 2007 stating, “By your hard work, perseverance and skill in restoring them you have become part of these stain glass windows, both their living history and their witness to God’s glory. First United Methodist Church of New Iberia graciously thanks you.” She traveled with the United Methodist Women’s Group and Dauterieve Hospital Ladies, a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Abbeville. She was a volunteer at St. Nicholas Church for 29 years and Hospice of Acadiana for the past 19 years.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, LeRoy John Kilchrist; daughter Rita LeBlanc of Covington; granddaughter Lelanya Kilchrist and husband, Brad Kalman, of Greenville, South Carolina; grandson Wesley John Van Brocklyn of New Iberia; sister Uina Schafer of Vyder, Texas; brother Clifton Peloquin of California; great-grandchildren Kristen Spiehler, Bowen Smith, Avery Burgess, Aiden Burgess, Soren Kalman and John Parish Kalman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odette Sparkman and Walter John Peloquin; son John Wesley Kilchrist; and brother Murphy Peloquin.
