Catholic High gets off to sluggish start in tournament loss to Tioga

LAFAYETTE — A sluggish start was too much to come back from as the Catholic High School boys’ basketball team fell to Tioga 68-53 in the Tuerlings Catholic tournament Wednesday.

CHS was outscored by Tioga 16-8 in the first quarter and 19-8 in the second quarter.

Kolbe Chretien had a game-high 30 points to lead CHS and Javian Willis added 11 points.

Jerry Moore had 13 for Tioga and Zeke King had 12 points for the Indians.

Catholic High plays the Comeaux/Cecilia loser in the tournament Friday at 4 p.m.

VC 54, ESA 51

ABBEVILLE — Saul Dartez, Rob Allums and Ethan Lege each had 10 points as Vermilion Catholic held off a late ESA rally to beat the Falcons Tuesday in a non-district boys’ game.

The game got off to a slow start with VC leading 6-3 after the first period. The teams each scored 48 points the rest of the way as the Eagles held on for the win.

Reuben Egan led ESA 22 points and Henry Shuffler just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.

ESA (8-3) plays host to Runnels Friday.

Girls

Catholic High 57, David Thibodaux 54

Madison Bienvenu returned from an injured ankle to scored a game-high 32 points as Catholic High rebounded from a loss to Opelousas Catholic Monday to beat David Thobdaux Wednesday.

Lauren Bonin added 10 points for the Lady Panthers, who outscored DT 37-34 in the second half for the win. 

Amani Barrow had 25 points for David Thibodaux (3-4).

CHS (3-3) plays host to Berwick Friday.

St. Thomas More 57, Erath 21

ERATH — Claire Hader and Emily Bourque each had 12 points as St. Thomas More jumped out to a 27-10 first quarter lead and cruised past Erath Tuesday in a non-district game.

Madison Prejean added 8 points for the Lady Cougars, who improved to 6-1.

Madeline Hebert led Erath with 9 points and Courtney Dubois added 7 for the Lady Bobcats (2-4), who play in the Delcambre Tournament today.
