Delcombre Jean Batiste Sr.

A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted for Delcombre Jean Batiste Sr., 85, at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2018, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 201 Gary Street in St. Martinville. Father Michael Sucharski, celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery.

Visitation will be observed from 7:30 a.m. until time of services at Notre Dame Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 9 a.m.

A native and resident of St. Martinville, Mr. Batiste departed this life at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at his residence surrounded by family and friends.

Mr. Batiste was employed as a supervisor at Levert St. John for 53 years. He also worked as a welder and was also employed at the Sugar Mill.

He leaves in God’s care, his wife of 64 years, Geraldine Batiste of St. Martinville; three sons Delcombre Batiste Jr., Jimmy Batiste Sr. and Sullivan Batiste all of St. Martinville; two daughters Christina B. Mitchell and Deidrin B. Pierre both of St. Martinville; one sister Doris B. Broussard of St. Martinville; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul Batiste Sr. and Philomen Cole Batiste; three daughters; one son Kevin Paul Batiste; one granddaughter Alisa Mitchell; three brothers Paul Batiste Jr., Rufus Batiste Sr. and Nolan Batiste Sr.; four sisters Geneva B. Mitchell, Mary B. Jacquet, Mildred Batiste and Edith B. Francois.

The active pallbearers will be Timmy Mitchell, Travis Mitchell Sr., Sullivan Batiste, Kevin Batiste, Jimmy Batiste Jr. and Travon Pierre.

The honorary pallbearers will be Delcombre Batiste Jr., Jimmy Batiste Sr., Timmy Mitchell Sr., Darrius Landry, Jarell Lawrence, JaCori Mercier, Courtney Pierre Sr., Brandon Batiste, Darrel Theriot, Patrick Antoine Sr., Lendreal Leon, Courtney Pierre Jr. and Andrew Menard.
