Jackets beat Franklin to reach tourney semis

In the last game of the second day of the New Iberia Senior High TruYou Battle in Da Berry boys’ basketball tournament, host NISH beat Franklin 55-42 to advance to today’s semifinal.

Because the game ended late, a complete recap was not available at deadline for today’s newspaper and will run Sunday.

Central Catholic 58, St. Martinville 55

PATTERSON — Brook Thomas led four players in double figures as Central Catholic beat St. Martinville in overtime in the Patterson Tournament Thursday.

Thomas had 18 points while D.J. Lewis, Demondrick Blackham and Elijah Swan each had 11 points. The Eagles outscored the Tigers 8-5 in the extra period for the win.

CCHS led 22-18 after the first quarter, 29-27 at halftime and 42-37 after three quarters before SMSH rallied to tie the game at 50-50 at the end of regulation.

Jalen Mitchell led the Tigers with 19 points. Jayvien Mallery and Datayvious Gabriel each had 9 points.

New Iberia 53, Cecilia 36

In the final game of the NISH TruYou Battle in Da Berry Wednesday night, Jaquandrick Lovette had 14 points as NISH beat Cecilia 53-36.

Jake Lovette and Ralph Johnson each had eight points for the Jackets, who toook a 15-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised to the win.

Avontez Ledet led Cecilia with 15 points.

Girls

Franklin 43, Patterson 37

FRANKLIN — Rontrinia Hawkins led the way with 12 points as Franklin beat Patterson in a non-district game Thursday night.

Sta’Trail Butler added 11 points and Makhai Fernandez chipped in eight points for the Lady Hornets.

Franklinpulled away in the second half for the win.

Individual statistics for Patterson were not available.

Franklin travels to Grand Coteau to face Academy of the Sacred Heart in the District 7-2A opener for both teams on Tuesday.
