LAFAYETTE — Harvey Batiste, a native of New Iberia and resident of Lafayette, passed away on December 6, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Fletcher Funeral Home in New Iberia. A Rosary will be recited at 8 a.m. Then a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Lafayette, with Rev. Clifton Labbe, celebrant.

Harvey will await the resurrection, promised by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in Rose Hill Cemetery in New Iberia.

A graduate of New Iberia Senior High School where he starred on the football team, Harvey experienced successful careers in both the construction and oilfield industries. A passionate sports fan, Harvey could be heard loudly cheering for his grandchildren at their various sporting events. As a music aficionado, Harvey instilled within his children and grandchildren the love of “old school music.” On the dance floor there was no one better at “swinging out” than Harvey. A loving and generous man, Harvey was the provider and protector for a large family. Harvey’s spirit will be heavily felt at all family gatherings to come, since these were the types of events that Harvey truly enjoyed because time spent with loved ones was most important to him.

Harvey leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Gladys Adams Batiste of Lafayette; one daughter Kyra Batiste of Lafayette; one grandchild Brooklyn Smith of Lafayette; one step-daughter Angel Jolivette (Troy) of Lafayette; three stepsons Gregory Wilson (Evelyn) of Monroe, Raymond Paul Wilson II (Geri) of Ellenwood, Georgia and Todd Wilson of Lafayette; three brothers, Lloyd “Buck” Brown of New Iberia, Ronald Batiste of Jeanerette and Darrell Batiste (Jackie) of New Iberia; three sisters, Barbara Gadson (Paul) of Orlando, Florida, Norma Cox (Richard) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Carolyn Batiste of Stone Mountain, Georgia; 12 step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harvey was preceded in death by his mother, Viola Brown; three sons, Cedric Batiste, Harvey Batiste Jr. and Brandon Batiste; and two sisters, Jo Ann Londo and Joyce Brown.
