Mary Delores Collins

A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mrs. Mary Delores Collins, 67, the former Mary Delores Dauphine, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas James, SVD, celebrant.

Entombment will be in Saint Edward Catholic Church Cemetery Mausoleum in New Iberia.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday at Fletcher Funeral Home at 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m.

Mary Delores Collins was a resident of New Iberia. She passed at 7:50 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018, at her residence.

She was a very faithful and loyal member of Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir.

Mary Delores attended Jonas Henderson High School for three years and graduated from New Iberia Senior High School in 1970. 

Fifty years ago, she met her high school sweetheart, Tony, and they were married for 48 wonderful years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Delores was employed at Consolata Nursing Home in New Iberia for 20 plus years. She was also employed by the Iberia Parish School Board.

Mary Delores leaves to cherish her memory and in God’s care, her husband of 48 years, Joseph “Tony” Collins Sr. of New Iberia; three sons Joseph Collins Jr. of Seattle, Washington, Jason Wade Collins Sr. (Kimberly) of Lithonia, Georgia and Derek Shaun Collins Sr. of Dallas, Texas; two sisters Theresa Marie Dauphine Collins of New Iberia and Joetta Marie Polk of Lawrenceville, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Emily Amy Dauphine Polk; her step-father, Riley Joseph Polk; one grandson, Courtland Oneal Hall; maternal grandparents, Garfield Dauphine and Elia Viltz Dauphine; father-in-law Levy Leroy Collins Sr. and mother-in-law Georgia Pomier Collins.

Active pallbearers are Derek Shaun Collins Sr., Santangelio Joseph Collins, Willie Paul Prevost Jr., Jason Wade Collins Jr., Joshua Christian Collins and Derek Shaun Collins Jr.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerrell Boudreaux, Rashaad Joseph Nora, Jorey Jermaine Collins, Yahzir NyQuan Malphurs, Lionel Collins, Kevin V. Collins, Willie Paul Prevost Sr., Joseph W. Hockless, Van Johnson, John Davis, Donald Vital, Gus Granger, Walter Foreman Jr. and Michael Cormier Sr.
