To say that Taylore Louviere has had an interesting high school career would be a bit of an understatement.

A quick summary of her prep career would include blasting onto the scene as a freshman, battling injuries as a sophomore, sitting out her junior year as a transfer, then returning in a big way as a senior before heading off to college with a volleyball scholarship in hand when graduation comes in May.

It’s a story that’s almost too good to be true and probably would be rejected if proposed as a movie.

But it’s all true.

“What she’s done is remarkable,” ESA head volleyball coach Ursula Quoyeser said. “Just coming back from a leg injury is good, but to do everything else she’s done in the process says a lot about the character that she has.”

Even bigger than her return from injury and transfer was the way Louviere came out and dominated as a senior.

By the time ESA’s season ended in the quarterfinals of the LHSAA Division IV state volleyball tournament, she had amassed 256 kills, 271 assists and 84 aces playing both as a hitter and a setter for the Lady Falcons volleyball team.

“Taylore added so much all the way around as an outside hitter, setter, defensive player and server,” Quoyeser said. “When you throw that in the mix, it really adds many different things that you can do on the court.”

Louviere’s journey started with her freshman and sophomore years at Highland Baptist before she tranferred to ESA prior her junior season. She sat out most of her sophomore year with an ankle injury and her junior year due to transfer rules. But sitting out didn’t mean sitting around.

“After her ankle healed, she started playing beach volleyball, which really made her a smarter player, and she learned much more about the game of volleyball that way,” Quoyeser said. “By the time volleyball season started in her senior year, she was ready to go and could do so much more for us.”

Louviere’s senior season also came with her share of awards.

She was the MVP of the North-South Classic held in Natchitoches and was a first-time All District player for the Lady Falcons. Louviere closed her prep career by signing a beach volleyball scholarship with Carson-Newman University.

To top it off, Louviere has been named Most Valuable Player on The Daily Iberian’s Best of the Teche Volleyball Team for the 2018 season as selected by the newspaper’s sports staff.

Joining her on the first team are ESA teammates Hailie and Kailie Williams, Catholic High junior Madison Bienvenu, New Iberia Senior High senior Trah-Nae St. Julien, and St. Martinville Senior High senior Tori Louis.

NISH’s Sara Robichaux, who led the Lady Jackets to their first playoff appearance since 2013 and first winning season since 2012, is the Coach of the year.

The Williams sisters also were key in ESA’s run to the state tournament in 2018.

Hailie finished the year with 283 kills, 33 aces and 40 blocks; Kailie finished with 248 kills, 20 aces and 49 blocks.

“Hailie and Kailie have been mainstays for us,” Quoyeser said. “They’re powerful hitters and phenomenal athletes.

“They could have been great together on the court, but it was better for us to keep them opposite in order for us to be able to run more quick sets on the court.”

Bienvenu finished the year with 358 kills. 57  aces and 12 blocks and was a first-team All-District selection.

“She made our team go,” CHS coach Gary Westcott said. “She was our most dominant player.”

St. Julien finished her district season with 53 kills19 aces and 10 blocks for NISH which was last in the playoffs five years ago and last had a winning season six years ago.

She was also a first-team All-District selection for the Lady Jackets.

Louis finished with 471 kills, seven aces and 44 blocks for a SMSH team that won the Division III, District 4 title with an undefeated record and was MVP of the district.

The second team includes Catholic High’s Abigail Richtofen; Highland Baptist’s Jasey Roy and Marin Barras; Delcambre’s Nyheila Ellis and St. Martinville’s Ebony Sylvester and Jordan Landry

Honorable mentions includes NISH’s Jordan Frilot, Allison Palermo and Abby Smith; Delcambre’s Ali Rae Falgout; Catholic High’s Christina Viator, Anna Angelle, Anna Gonsoulin, Oakley Guillot and Hana Maturin; Highland Baptist’s Bri Sensley, Mia Mitchell and Isabelle Breaux; Westgate’s Kamryn Fontenot, Jessica Simon and Nyla Jones; West St. Mary’s Briana Frank, Takylan Hamilton, JaKoia Tillman, Asia Richardson and Dominique Desvignes and Franklin’s Yareliz Quinones.
