Westgate, SMSH reach Shootout semifinals

ST. MARTINVILLE — Westgate and St. Martinville won their quarterfinal games Thursday in the St. Martinville Holiday Shootout, while New Iberia was knocked off by Breaux Bridge.

Westgate beat Welsh 75-61 in the day’s first game and St. Martinville beat Tioga 74-70 in the final game. In consolation bracket games, Patterson beat St. Martinville’s freshmen 65-42, Peabody beat Franklin 87-56 and JS Clark beat Jennings 63-58. In other quarterfinal games, Hamilton Christian beat Cecilia 58-49 and Breaux Bridge beat New Iberia 54-40.

In games today, Jeanerette plays JS Clark at noon and Patterson faces Peabody at 1:30 p.m. in the consolation semifinals; New Iberia faces Welsh at 3 p.m. and Tioga plays Cecilia at 4:30 p.m. in the fifth-place semifinals; and St. Martinville plays Hamilton Christian at 6 p.m. and Westgate plays Breaux Bridge at 7:30 in the semifinals.

Saturday games see the consolation game at noon, the fifth-place game at 1:30 p.m., the third-place game at 3 p.m. and the championship at 4:30 p.m.

Westgate 75, Welsh 51

Westgate jumped out to a 31-point halftime lead on the way to the second-round win Thursday, leading 24-6 at the end of one quarter and 46-15 at halftime.

Devondra Butler and Derryon Sam had 15 points each for Westgate and Tyrell Antoine added 14 points for the Tigers. Da’Ren Zeno led the Greyhounds with 16 points. Dymond Brown had 13.

JS Clark 63, Jennings 58

In an elimination game, JS Clark built a double-digit lead in the first quarter and held on in the second half to win. JS Clark led 24-11 after one quarter and 42-28 at halftime but was outscored 30-21 in the second half to make it close.

Shaquay Hunt had 16 points to lead JS Clark’s Bulldogs. Brylen Tyler added 11 and Char’Von Roberts-Holmes and Leondonta Valyan had 10 each.

Jacorian Palfrey had 23 points to lead Jennings and Thomyron Pattum had 14 for the Bulldogs.

Patterson 65, SMSH Freshmen 42

Patterson jumped out to a 22-11 lead after one quarter and pulled away from there in an elimination game.

Tyrone Tillman had 17 points to lead the Lumberjacks. Kai Schexnayder added 11 and Elijah Williams had 10.

Tanner Harrison had 16 points and three 3-pointers for SMSH and Mandrell Butler had 11 points with two 3-pointers.

Peabody 87, Franklin 56

In an elimination game, Peabody led 24-12 at the end of the first quarter, 37-18 at halftime and 66-35 after three periods.

Darius Smith led the Warhorses with 16 points. Andrew Pearson added 14, Melvion Flanagan had 12 and Kevin Scott had 10.

J’Michael Gray led Franklin with 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and Kim Provost had four 3-pointers and 17 points. Braydon Ward added 12 points.

Hamilton Christian 58, Cecilia 49

Hamilton Christian stretched a 26-22 halftime lead to 44-35 by the end of the third quarter on the way to an elimination game win.

Michael Thomas went 6-for-7 at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter and led Hamilton Christian with 18 points. Adrian Brown and Nick Forsite each scored 12.

Avontez Ledet had 21 points, including five 3-pointers, for Cecilia. Ethan Howard added 12 points.

Breaux Bridge 54, New Iberia 40

In a quarterfinal game, Breaux Bridge built a 6-point halftime lead and outscored New Iberia 15-4 in the third quarter to blow the game open.

Trevonte Sylvester had 20 points to lead the Tigers. Deandre Hypolite added 11 and Seth Alexander had 10.

Jake Lovette had 18 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead NISH. Ralph Johnson had 8 and Xavier Smith added 7.

St. Martinville 74, Tioga 70

In the final quarterfinal game, St. Martinville rallied from a 44-35 deficit after three quarters to send the game to overtime at 53 apiece, then outscored Tioga 21-17 in the extra period to win.

Tanner Harrison had 19 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Tigers. Jalen Mitchell added 17 points with three 3-pointers, Daytavious Gabriel had 15 points and Davantre Alexander added 14.

Ty Sanders led the Indians with 20 points. Kenneth Navarre had 18 and Terry Moore had 16.

Yuletide Classic

ABBEVILLE — In Vermilion Catholic’s annual holiday tournament, Fontainebleau beat Erath in a boys’ game and Erath and Delcambre lost girls’ bracket consolation games.

In other games, St. Thomas More beat Gueydan 49-29 and Acadiana beat Kaplan 35-28 in girls’ games.

Fontainebleau 61, Erath 31

Fontainebleau jumped out to a 30-13 halftime lead, holding Erath to single-digit points in each of the first two periods, on the way to a boys’ bracket win.

Conner McCormick had 21 points with three 3-pointers to lead the Bulldogs. Trey Alfonso had 1 and Michael Cuccia had 11 with three 3-point shots.

William LeBlanc had 14 points and Tucker Derise added 9 for the Bobcats, each contributing two 3-pointers.

Abbeville 43, Erath 23

In a girls’ game, Erath led 6-3 after one quarter before Abbeville went up 18-10 at halftime and 27-18 after three quarters.

Chelsea Stewart had 16 points to pace the Lady Wildcats and Keiona Caillier added 10.

Courtney DuBois led the Lady Bobcats with 12 points.

North Vermilion 40, Delcambre 27

In a girls’ game, North Vermilion held Delcambre to 8 first-half points on the way to a win in the consolation bracket.

Gabbie Bessard had 16 points and Jace Myers had 14 to lead the Lady Patriots, with Myers sinking three 3-pointers.

Amalie Bouton led Delcambre with 9 points and Lexi Guidry, Tayah Lewis and Chloe Hernandez had 5 each.
