SMSH beats WHS for third place at tournament

ST. MARTINVILLE — Andrew Savoy led the way with 18 points as St. Martinville Senior High beat Westgate 73-59 Saturday in the third place game at the St. Martinville Holiday Shootout.

Daytavious Gabrile added 15 points and Jalen Mitchell finished with 14 as the home-standing Tigers broke open a close game by outscoring Westgate 21-6 in the second quarter for a 36-16 lead at the break.

Keydrain Calligan led Westgate with a game-high 20 points while Derryon Sam added 12 points in the losing effort.

Westgate (9-4) plays host to Southern Lab Wednesday, SMSH (6-13) plays host to Catholic High Wednesday.

Tioga 46, New Iberia 45

ST. MARTINVILLE — Jaquan Latula had 15 points as New Iberia Senior High dropped its second straight game at the St. Martinville Holiday Shootout with a 46-45 defeat to Tioga Saturday.

Jaterrius Fusilier added 10 points and Jaquandrick Lovette added nine for the Jackets, who fell behind 32-29 at the end of the third quarter and rallied in the final period but fell just short to the Indians.

Ty Sanders had a game-high 23 points to lead Tioga (17-5).

NISH (10-6) travels to St. Martinville Friday.

Peabody 108, Jeanerette 44

ST. MARTINVILLE — Melvion Flanagan led six players in double-figures as Peabody crushed Jeanerette 108-44 in the consolation finals of the St. Martinville Holiday Shootout Saturday.

Flanagan had 24 points, Kyron Gobson added 18, Darius Smith finished with 14 points and three other Peabody players had 10 points each as the Warhorses (16-2) outscored the Tigers 62-26 over the second and third quarters to take control of the game.

Taylor Tallmore led Jeanerette with 11 points but no other players had more than eight points for the Tigers.

Jeanerette (7-8) opens District 7-2A play at Loreauville Wednesday.

Breaux Bridge 47, Westgate 43

ST. MARTINVILLE — Seth Alexander had 15 points and Kyser Patt added 10 as Breaux Bridge beat Westgate 47-43 in the St. Martinville Holiday Shootout Friday.

Markeyvrick Eddie led WHS with 15 points as the Tigers fell behind 24-15 at halftime, rallied to take a 37-30 lead at the end of the third quarter, then watched as Breaux Bridge came back in the final period for the win.

Derryone Sam had nine points in the loss for Westgate.

Ham. Christian 65,

St. Martinville 51

ST. MARTINVILLE — Zion Stewart had 17 points as Hamilton Christian blew past St. Martinville 65-51 in the St. Martinville Holiday Shootout Friday.

Michael Thomas added 16 points and Adrian Brown finished with 14 for the Warriors, who held a six points halftime lead and pulled away in the third quarter for the win.

Jalen Mitchell led SMSH with 11 points while Brian Wiltz and Davantre Alexandre each had 10 points.

Jeanerette 55,

 J.S. Clark 38

ST. MARTINVILLE — Shonathan Sparrow had 22 points as Jeanerette blew past J.S. Clark 55-38 Friday at the St. Martinville Holiday Shootout.

Jared Drexler added 11 for the Tigers, who outscored Clark 23-11 in the second half to pull away for the win.

Brylin Tyler led Clark with 13 points.

New Iberia 64,

Welsh 46

ST. MARTINVILLE — Jaterrius Fusilier scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the first half  as New Iberia beat Welsh 64-46 Friday in the SMSH Holiday Shootout.

Jaquandrick Lovette added 13 points as NISH bolted out to a 21-5 first quarter lead and cruised to the 18 points win over the Greyhounds.

Thomas Scruggs led Welsh with 14 points.
