New Year’s Eve shooting leads to arrest

A man was arrested New Year’s Eve and charged with attempted second-degree murder following a shooting at the intersection of Ann Street and Twenty Arpent Road. 

According to a prepared statement, the shooting was at 11 p.m. Monday, and the New Iberia Police Department responded quickly to the report. During the investigation, police officers were able to locate 40-year-old LeQuint Livingston, who allegedly fired the shots, according to the report. 

Police officers also said they recovered physical evidence in the vehicle he was driving tying Livingston to the shooting. The victim of the shooting suffered a gunshot wound to the lower torso and is being treated at a local hospital, police said. 

Livingston was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail and charged with attempted second-degree murder, eight counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, three counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone. 

No bond has been set at this time.
