According to an NIPD spokesman, officers were alerted to the shooting around 2:50 Friday morning. When they arrived at the residence, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to Iberia Medical Center in critical condition. A short time after arriving at the hospital, he was pronounced dead.

After investigating the crime scene and collecting evidence, investigators determined the victim was inside the residence and shot through a window. Investigators also identified Augustine as a person of interest.

Police have not released the name of the victim.

During the investigation, investigators also tied Augustine and Joshua Markell James to a shooting on Dec. 29 in the 900 block of Walton Street. In that shooting, a 15-year-old male was shot while walking down the street and was admitted to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Augustine and James were both charged with conspiracy to commit murder and attempted second-degree murder in that case.

Augustine and Markell were both booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
