The Iberia Parish Council’s Ad-Hoc Millage Committee will meet this evening to continue its discussion of the parish’s millages.
This week’s agenda will focus on those millages supporting the parish courthouse and jail buildings as well as the jail and law enforcement expenditure contributions the parish makes for the exempted municipalities of the parish.
The committee, comprised of council members and members of the public, is reviewing the parish’s current millages and the expenses those taxes support. The goal is for the committee to make recommendations to the council and administration on how millage rates might be adjusted in the coming year.
The committee met for the first time on Jan. 3, and will continue meeting on Wednesday evenings during weeks when the parish council does not meet. During the first meeting, committee members reviewed the maximum amount of millages that can be rolled up, as well as the possibility of putting some millages to the voters to be rededicated for other purposes.
The committee will meet at 6 p.m. in the parish council meeting room on the fourth floor of the Iberia Parish Courthouse, 300 Iberia St.
