- The commercial dumpster from the back of a truck that hit the U.S. 90 overpass at Louisiana 14 is lifted following the accident Tuesday morning.
The back of a garbage truck collided with the U.S. 90 overpass Monday morning after the truck failed to bring down the arms of the truck.
New Iberia Fire Chief Gordon Copell said the incident happened Tuesday morning at approximately 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Louisiana 14 and U.S. 90. The truck, which Copell said was designed to carry commercial dumpsters, had its back end ripped off in the accident.
Inspectors with the state Department of Transportation and Development inspected the overpass structure to make sure it was regulation size, which led to a road closure in the area, Copell said.
The vehicle was then escorted back to the company’s facility.
“Luckily the truck wasn’t loaded,” Copell said.
