A day after Devin White showcased his blistering speed at the NFL Combine, it was fellow LSU All-American Greedy Williams’ turn.
White set the bar high for the six LSU players at the annual scouting event held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Dick Butkus Award winner posted a 4.42 time in the 40-yard dash on Sunday which was the fastest of the LSU participants edging out both tight end Foster Moreau (4.66) and running back Nick Brossette (4.72).
That was until Williams took to the artificial turf on Monday.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound cornerback, who started 23 games for the Tigers and is projected as a first-round draft pick, ran an official 4.37 time in the 40-yard dash.
That may have been the best time of any LSU player at the NFL Combine but it was not the best of the group of cornerbacks.
Auburn’s Jamel Dean posted the fastest time overall with a 4.30 and Clemson’s Mark Fields tied Williams for the second-fastest 40-yard dash — as he also ran a 4.37.
That event would be the last of the day for Williams who pulled out of all the other drills due to experiencing cramps following his second attempt in the 40-yard dash.
John Battle also worked out at the NFL Combine on Monday.
The 6-foot-2, 206-pound safety recorded a 4.67 in the 40-yard dash, leaping 120 inches in the broad jump and 29.5 inches in the vertical jump.
Battle’s best drill performance was the three cone drill in which he completed it in 7.09 seconds for the fourth-best time of any of the safeties. Battle also had the fourth best time in the 20-yard shuttle (4.33 seconds).
Battle did not take part in the bench press or 60-yard shuttle drills.
Next up in the NFL Draft process will be LSU’s Pro Day which will be held on Friday, March 22.
