Where it Begins

On March 9, New Iberia’s Irish Marching Men, Fir Mairseail, will meet at the New Iberia City Hall fountain with local dignitaries including the Grand Marshall, Jerry Shea, members of the New Iberia City Police and Fire Department, the Berry Queens and community members. To kick off the Turning the Bayou Country Green celebration, Mayor Freddie Decourt will open the valve to turn the fountain water Irish Green.

The Stops

After the fountain has been tinted green, a bus will leave the civic center bound for New Iberia’s favorite bars and pubs. A ticket to the Fir Mairseail’s annual fundraising raffle will also double as a ticket to ride along on the pub crawl. Raffle tickets can be purchased at N.ILA’s Bourbon Hall or the E&E Sports Bar. The bus will leave City Hall around 4 and hit Quarter Tavern, Preservation, N.I.L.A’s Bourbon Hall, Napoleon’s and E&E Sports Bar.

The Specials

N.I.L.A.’s Bourbon Hall – Two-for-One shots

E&E Sports Bar aka “The E” – Guests can enjoy finger foods

Quarter Tavern – Everything will be $1.00

The Finale

If you miss the pub crawl, there’s still a chance to get to celebrate on St. Patrick’s Day! At 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, the Marching Men of New Iberia and the Grand Marshall will lead the march of kilt clad members and other local civic organizations down Main Street from the Civic Center to the Bridge Street area. Marchers will hand out doubloons, candies, beads and carnation. The fund raising raffle will take place at 6 p.m. at N.I.L.A’s Bourbon Hall.
