Shirley S. Welcome

A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mrs. Shirley Welcome, 75, the former Shirley Simon, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Saint Edward Roman Catholic with Fr. Thomas Vu, celebrant.

She will await the resurrection in St. Matthew Cemetery in New Iberia.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday at Fletcher Funeral Home at 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 10 a.m.

A resident of New Iberia, she passed at 1:34 a.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at her residence.

Shirley was devoted to the Lord as a member of Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church and was a graduate of Jonas Henderson High School. She worked with Iberia Parish School Board for 25 years. Her interests included family, cooking, dancing and singing. Her charm and smile set enlightened at any given moment.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Rodney Simon and his companion Raven Londo of New Iberia; her granddaughter Rayvelynn M. Londo of New Iberia; one special god-child she reared, LaToya S. (Melvin) Woods of Humble, Texas; her aunt who was like a mother, Joyce R. Vallot of New Iberia; close cousins Ouida V. (Albert) Archangel and Leroy Vallot Jr. and his companion Angelina Peters, all of Olivier, Lugerta Bastian of New Iberia and Julia Singleton of Morgan City; five godchildren, Lance (Artesha) Vallot of New Iberia, and Agnes Dalcour and Shawn Vallot, both of Lafayette, Brandon Simon of Houston and LaKeisa Simon of New Iberia. She is and will always be loved by many neices, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Welcome; father Bob Simon; mother Lucy Mitchell; brother Jeffery J. Chatman; grandmother who reared her, Julia C. Mitchell; grandfather Moot Mitchell; uncles Andrew and Wilbert Mitchell, Leward and Leroy Vallot Sr.; aunts Agnes Mitchell, Hattie Thibeaux and Maggie Jacquet; and a special cousin/big brother, Larry Vallot Sr.

Active Pallbearers are Leroy Vallot Jr., Shawn Vallot, Lee Vallot, Keith Mitchell, Melvin Woods, Harrison Welcome Jr., Bryant Thomas and Uhuru Lewis.

Honorary Pallbearers are Albert Archangel, Terrance Vallot, Aaron Vallot, Larry Vallot Jr., Jermaine Vallot, Tevin Vallot, Elias Charles, Brannon Jones, Willie Chretien, Kevin Augustine and Roy Welcome.
