JEANERETTE — A Home-going celebration will be held for Mrs. Wendy Felicia Gambles, 59, the former Wendy Fontenette at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, First Church of God In Christ, Elder James Proctor, Pastor with Rev. Arthur Lee Alexander, officiating.

She will await the resurrection in Saint Mark Baptist Church Cemetery in Jeanerette.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday at the church 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

On Friday, March 15, 2019, Wendy Felicia Fontenette Gambles departed this life at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, following a brief illness.

Wendy was born on January 30, 1960, in New Iberia, to Edna May Young Fontenette and Royal Fontenette Sr. She was raised in Jeanerette, where she resided until her death.

At an early age, Wendy was baptized and attended St. Mark Baptist Church and was a member for many years. Later in life, Wendy confirmed her faith and was baptized again at First Church of God in Christ in Jeanerette, by Elder James Proctor.

Wendy graduated from Jeanerette Senior High School in May of 1978. After graduation, she attended Angelo’s School of Hair and Beauty where she received her diploma in Cosmetology. Her employment history included Jeanerette Mills, Davis Trucking Service and she also worked as a radio broadcaster at KANE radio station.

Wendy is survived by her husband and soulmate of 43 years, Eric Leo Gambles Sr. of Lubbock, Texas; two children, Dr. Roderick Wayne Fontenette of Roseville, California, and Erica Nicole Fontenette of Jeanerette; one granddaughter, Arianna Guerra, also of Jeanerette; two sisters, Darlene (Jaime) Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas, and Jerolyn Fontenette of Patterson; two brothers, Rickey (Diane) Fontenette of San Antonio, Texas, and Roger Lynn Fontenette of El Paso, Texas; one aunt, Evelyn Mitchell of New Iberia; two goddaughters, Kimberly Mitchell Edwards and Kayla Janay Bean; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Wendy joins in glory with her parents, Edna and Royal Fontenette Sr.; grandparents, Alex and Ebether Conway Young; one brother Royal Fontenette Jr.; one uncle Alex Young Jr.; and three aunts Ruby Young, Jessica Moore and Virginia Mitchell.

Active Pallbearers are Kenneth Edwards, Robert Mitchell Jr., Byron August, Ronald Hall, Jody Richard and James Wallace Jr.

Honorary Pallbearers are Ricky Fontenette Jr., Roger Lynn Fontenette Sr., Corey Fontenette, Royal Fontenette III, Robert Wayne Mitchell Sr. and Raymond Mitchell.
