The State Fire Marshal’s Office has arrested two teenagers for setting a fire inside of a Jeanerette park bathroom Wednesday evening.

The 17 and 16-year-old boys were arrested on one count of simple arson, according to a prepared statement. Both were released into the custody of their guardians.

SFM deputies were called to the Jeanerette City Park, located in the 1600 block of Tarleton Road in Jeanerette, to investigate the origin and cause of a fire inside of the men’s bathroom building.

After an assessment of the scene, investigators determined the area of origin was a toilet paper dispenser and that the fire was set intentionally.

Through witness statements and collaboration with Jeanerette Police, investigators identified the teens as suspects and brought them in for questioning.

In an interview with deputies, the teens admitted to setting the fire, according to the statement.
