A former business manager for a New Iberia company is in jail, accused of helping take more than $500,000 from the company.

Eppie Martin, also known as Eppie Broussard, of Loreauville, was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on charges of theft over $25,000, computer fraud, and bank fraud.

According to the New Iberia Police Department, the business owner contacted detectives in February, saying he was unable to account for funds in the company’s business checking account.

Detectives worked with the company’s accountant and found approximately $500,000 in funds unaccounted for.

During the investigation, detectives found the company’s former office manager had written several unauthorized checks from the company’s checking account and would cover it up by altering the financial ledger in the company’s computer system.

Martin was still being held in the Iberia Parish Jail as of Thursday evening. Her bond has been set at $375,000.

Police say this is an active investigation and more arrests are likely.
