New Iberia man arrested in St. Jude Street homicide

A New Iberia man is in jail on a single murder charge after another man was shot to death in the parking lot of a St. Jude Street grocery store Saturday night.

At about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, New Iberia Police officers responded to the T and B Grocery Store at the corner of St. Jude and Rouly streets after receiving a report of a shooting.

Officers found the victim with apparent gunshot wounds lying in the parking lot of a local grocery store. The man, who has been identified as 21-year-old Michael Hypolite of New Iberia, died as a result of the injuries received in the shooting.

While officers where still on the scene of the incident they were able to located a suspect in the shooting and took him into custody. He has been identified as 17-year-old Marlin D. Pernell also of New Iberia. He has been charged with second-degree murder and was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. His bond has been set at $700,000.

This investigation is still ongoing with more arrest possible.
