Loreauville advances to quarterfinals

LOREAUVILLE — For the second straight playoff game, the Loreauville Lady Tigers found themselves down after the visiting teams first at-bat.

Monday, it was the 11th seed Fisher Lady Gators that came off the bus and scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead over No. 6 seed Loreauville.

After that, it was all Lady Tigers as LHS scored 17 straight runs over four innings to claim the 17-2 second round win and advance to the Class 2A quarterfinals where they will hit the road to play No. 3 seed Mangham, which beat No. 14 seed Lakeside 2-1 Monday in its second round game.

LHS coach Jude Dugas said the the quarterfinal contest is tentatively set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Mangham but there was a chance that the game would be moved to Saturday due to expected inclement weather on Thursday moving through North Louisiana.

The winner of the Loreauville/Mangham contest will got to the semifinals at the state tournament at Frasch Park in Sulphur on Friday, April 26.

Against Fisher, it was pitcher Kate Landry who did most of the damage as she held Fisher to two runs on five hits in four innings of work in the circle and had a home run and a double and knocked in four runs in four plate appearances.

Kelsi Louviere also had a double and knocked in two runs. Malaine Eldridge, Madi Freyou and Camryn Angelle each had two hits while Mia Romero had a hit and scored three runs and Grace Boggs and Paige McHugh each had hit in the win.

For Fisher, Taylor Encalade, Tori Templete, Kylie Matherne, Alysha Helmer and Sydni Russell each had hit in the losing effort.

Dallas Des Roches took the loss as she allowed 17 runs, but only five earned, on 12 hits in 3 2/3 innings.

In the only other playoff game Monday, second-seed Oak Grove beat 15th seeded Centerville 18-0 in three innings to advance to the quarterfinals.

The LHSAA softball playoff continue today as No. 5 seed Catholic High plays host to No. 12 seed Dunham at 5:30 p.m. at Lady Panther Park. The winner of that game advances to the quarterfinals where it will play No. 4 seed Riverside Academy, which beat Pope John Paul II 12-0 in five innings Monday.

In Class 3A, sixth-seeded Erath plays host to 11th seeded Albany today at 5:30 p.m. at Quality Sports Authority. The winner of that game advances to the quarterfinals and will play the winner of the 3/14 game between Caldwell Parish and Jena, also set for today.

If Caldwell Parish wins, the game will play played at Caldwell Parish High. If Erath wins and Jena pulls the upset, then the Lady Bobcats would play host to the quarterfinals.
