An early morning fire Wednesday claimed the lives of some pets for an Iberia parish family, but all the people inside the residence made it out safely.

Iberia Parish Fire District No. 1 Chief Guy Bonin said the department received a call about a structure fire at approximately 4:45 a.m. Thursday. Bonin said the fire took place inside a house.

“It was a residence, the people were able to get out but they lost a few of their animals. I think two dogs were saved but there were some other animals.”

All of the people inside the home were able to make it out safely, however.

Bonin said the cause of the fire is still undetermined, and the incident is under investigation.
