Shirley S. Broussard

A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mrs. Shirley Marie S. Broussard, 75, the former Shirley Marie Sonnier, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Fr. Keith Landry, celebrant.

She will await the resurrection in Saint Edward Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in New Iberia.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at the church on Thursday at 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m.

A resident of New Iberia, she passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Maison Teche Nursing Center in Jeanerette.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Bereavement Ministry. She was also a former member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court No. 179 of Olivier. In addition, she belonged to the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament and the Marian Movement of Priest Cenacle which prayed the Rosary and other devotional prayers daily for priests and Intentions of the Pope. She was also employed for over nineteen years as a cafeteria technician at Catholic High School and at Saint Edward Catholic School. She enjoyed Cajun line dancing and competing in the annual Cajun/Creole Cookbook every year. Mostly, she enjoyed spending every minute she could with her grandchild, Simone.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Mr. Paul Glenn Broussard of New Iberia; two sons, Paul Jason Broussard of Youngsville and Glenn Joseph Broussard of Lafayette; one daughter, Tammy Broussard Cormier (Jason) of Saint Martinville; one brother, Warren Sonnier (Louvenia) of Lafayette; one sister, Francis “Sis” Domingue (Curley) of Duson; one grandchild, Simone Monique Cormier of Saint Martinville; two step-grandchildren, Paige Cormier and Peyton Cormier of Lafayette; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Sonnier and Helen Jolivette Sonnier; one son, Glenn Reginald Broussard; one grandchild, Simeon James Cormier; two brothers, Adam “Chukkey” Sonnier and Paul “J-O” Sonnier; and one sister, Helen “T-Rose” Sonnier.

Active Pallbearers are Jason Cormier, Corey Broussard, Ronnie Sonnier, Keith Sonnier, Bobby Sonnier and Timothy Sonnier.

Honorary Pallbearers are Terry Domingue, Warren Sonnier, Curley Domingue, Ricky Sonnier, Nolan Broussard and Tony Broussard.
