- Catholic High’s Kaiden Burgess finished third in the javelin at the Class 2A Regional meet and will go to Baton Rouge next week to compete at the LHSAA State Outdoor Meet at LSU.
The Delcambre Lady Panthers and the Highland Baptist Lady Bears came close, the ESA Lady Falcons rolled and the LHSAA Outdoor Track season comes to an end next week with the State Outdoor Meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium Thursday-Saturday May 2-4.
Classes B and C will run Thursday, Classes A and 2A will compete Friday and Classes 3A, 4A and 5A will run Saturday.
The regional meets were held this week and only ESA’s Lady Falcons came away with a regional title although the Delcambre Lady Panthers finished third in the girls meet and Catholic High finished third in the boys regional meet that was held at McNeese and the Highland Baptist Lady Bears finished third in the Class A Regional held at Louisiana-Lafayette.
Class 2A, Region II
At McNeese, Catholic High finished with 69 points and Franklin finished with 36 points. Episcopal High of Baton Rouge won the boys meet with 133 points.
Qualifying for state from the boys meet were Peter Leblanc, who won the 300 meter hurdles in 40.73 seconds and won the triple jump with a leap of 45 feet, 4 ¾ inches.
Nicholas Russell won the pole vault with a height of 16 feet and Evan Nguyen finished third in the event.
Kaiden Burgess was third in the javelin and Trey Amos was third in the long jump.
CHS’ 4×100 relay team finished second.
Franklin’s Malik King was second in the 200 meters and third in the 100 meters and the 4×100 relay team finished first in a time of 43.90 and the 4×200 meter relay team was third.
Jeanerette’s Tyrell Brooks finished second in the shot put and the Tigers’ 4×100 meter relay team finished third.
Delcambre’s 4×400 meter relay team finished in third place.
In the girls meet, Delcambre’s Amalie Bouton won the 100 meter hurdles in 16.04 and was also first in the pole vault at a height of 9-0.
Nyhelia Ellis was second in the 300 hurdles and Chloe Hernandez was second in the discus and second in the high jump.
The Lady Panthers 4×400 meter relay team finished in second place.
Delcambre scored 59 points at the meet which was good for third place. Episcopal won the meet with 105 points.
For Catholic High, Ashlyn Broussard was second in the 400 meters while defending Class 2A state javelin champ Anna Gonsoulin qualified for the state meet with a second place finish in her signature event.
Jeanerette’s Shirleysha McCreary was second in the 100 meters and the Lady Tigers’ 4×200 meter relay team finished in the second place.
Franklin’s 4×100 meter relay team finished in second place at regionals.
Class A, Region II
In Lafayette, Highland Baptist’s Lady Bears finished tied for third in regional meet with Westminster Christian. Each team had 117 points. Lafayette Christian won the regional with 232 points.
Qualifying for the state meet next week at LSU were Bri Sensley, who was second in the long jump; Marin Barras, who was second in the discus; Maegan Champagne won the 1600 meters in 5:47.44 while teammate Dusti Abshire was third in the event and the 4×400 relay team finished third and will go to the state meet.
Hanson’s Madi St. Blanc finished third in the 3200 meters.
In the boys’ meet, Lafayette Christian won with 238 points.
Qualifying for the state meet were Centerville’s 4×200 meter relay team, which finished in second place.
Class B, Region III
In Lake Charles, ESA’s Lady Falcons won the regional with 145 points while the ESA boys finished second with 78 points. J.S. Clark Leadership Academy of Opelousas won the boys meet with 144 points.
Qualifying for state in the girls meet were Kailie Williams, who won the 100 meters (13.00) and the 200 meters (27.59); Aline Malik won the 3200 meters (12:47.23); Ayden Brown won the 400 meters (1:02.68) and teammate Samantha Withers finished second; Withers and Madeline Breaux finished second and third in the 800 meters; Withers and Malik finished second and third in the 1600 meters; Malik won the 3200 meters in 12:47.23; Hailie Williams won the 100 hurdles (18.24), was third in the 300 hurdles and won the high jump (4-8); ESA also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays; Ruthie Ann Reaux was third in the high jump and Irene Kaiser won the triple jump (32-3).
In the boys meet, Ian Allem finished third in the 400 meters; Jackson Spoon won the 1600 meters (4:59.66); Charlie Blanchard was second in the 3200 meters; Williams Lemoine was second in the 110 meter hurdles and won the 300 hurdles (43.20); ESA finished second in the 4×400 meter hurdles; Richard Magann was third in the shot put and Emil Meyer was third in the triple jump.
There was no reported results from the Class 4A, Region II meet with Westgate and St. Martinville and due to inclement weather, the Class 5A, Region I meet at Northwestern State was postponed until today.
