Richard Wayne Shepherd

A celebration of life memorial visitation will be held for Richard Wayne Shepherd, 70, on Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia.

Richard passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at New Iberia Medical Center with his sisters by his side.

Richard, or Wayne as he was known, was born November 24, 1948, in New Iberia to Richard Lewis Shepherd and Mary Maude Efurd Shepherd. He graduated from New Iberia High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Degree from USL. As a teen, Wayne loved swimming and spent summers life guarding at New Iberia City Park. During his years as a member of Boy Scout Troop 17, he taught rowing and canoeing at Camp Thistlewaite and attended Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Wayne was always happiest outdoors and enjoyed camping and visiting family in Montana. He had been very sick for a long time, but prior to that he was very outgoing, friendly and loved visiting and talking with everyone he met.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Shep” and Mary Maude Shepherd.

He is survived by his sisters Sherry (Larry) Heimgartner of Big Sandy, Montana and Janice (Randall) David of Tomball, Texas; nephew Jason David; nieces Tanya Taylor Allen, Melanie Taylor and Keli David Touchet; numerous grandnephews, grandnieces and cousins.

Wayne was a loving son, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed.
